FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL MOTHERS OUT THERE!!!

IF MOTHERS WENT ON STRIKE

Mother, how important is she in one’s life. Is she taken for granted (as we mostly do) or respected and loved the way we see in Typical Bollywood Movies. Frankly I don’t know. I never knew the importance of my mother (though I loved her dearly) till I became one. Yes you read it right, I knew what she meant to me only after I became a mother. Its when I stepped into her shoes did I know that I am a part of her and we both are inseparable…

So suppose we wake up one fine morning and realize that our mothers are on strike how would you feel? Have you ever thought about it? You would definitely get an electric jolt, will send a chill down your spine and completely lost. As we take them for granted we feel they ought to do all the household chores. But will that be fair on our part. After all they are humans too.

Mother is a divine gift to us from God who gives us unconditional love and guidance. She is the soul of our home. She is the one who converts our brick walled house into a warm and cozy home. Mothers are the security blankets who tuck us safe and sound.

Has anyone wondered how we get those magical hot breakfasts and meals on time, how our clothes are washed, ironed and kept neatly in the cupboards, how do all our papers and books so meticulously sit in our book shelf and this‘HOW’ list is just endless. Do our mothers have a magical wand? No they don’t, they too have two hands which work tirelessly and selflessly without complaining.

So all I have to say is mothers are the backbone of our home and to keep this backbone healthy, sturdy and strong, shower them with love, respect and care. Make them feel loved.

Love her, she deserves it too

MESSAGE FOR ALL THE MOTHERS ROUND THE GLOBE

Kick those feet up and let the kids do a bit of their share. Mothers just go read a book, enjoy a bubble bath and enjoy some leisure time.Come on-Begin right here, right now… Cheers to MOTHERHOOD :)

Happiness

Togetherness matters

Most of us will actually wonder what is so special about these pictures.. The other day I was reading a book leisurely  when these bunch of kids caught my attention.I saw them merrily playing  and creating a hullabaloo on the playground.I immediately captured this in my camera. What I felt and realised is that the pursuit of happiness is in being together with the ones you love.. No matter if its a play ground or an exotic trip to say- Europe..Its the company that matters and not the place. So I decided never ever to let go of those who are close to my heart.. Being in touch is all that matters. In the present scenario we don't have time -FULLY AGREED  but we NEED TO  and HAVE TO find time for such small and joyful moments... :)

DIWALI OF LIGHTS, NOT NOISE

Diwali of lights ,not noise

Right from childhood days I was taught and made to
believe that Diwali is a festival of lights in our country.  As I sit back on my easy
chair and think vividly I wonder how far this is true. Is Diwali only a
festival of lights or beyond that? There is a loud deafening  ‘boom boom’
or say ‘bang bang’ which awakens me from my deep thoughts (Diwali is
round the corner). So got the answer Diwali is now festival of bombs and
crackers in the 21st century..

Is Diwali really not possible without crackers or
atleast some alternative ?? Can I ever expect a peaceful Diwali in the years to
come? We teach children every year very religiously that we should celebrate a
environmental friendly Diwali… But how far do we as adults follow it in true
sense. People in India are well aware of the terrible effects of firecrackers
both to the environment and health. Yet, turning a blind eye, parents are
encouraging their children to burst crackers by spending thousands on them. In
terms of health India has not been prospering but steadily declining over the
years  Crackers add more to it.

Ofcourse I do come across banners and posters which
have loud messages such as- ‘Say no to crackers I have asthma’, ‘Don’t burst
crackers burst away your ego’ and so on. But how powerful have they been in
conveying the message to the masses, I am not sure. Yes, we all know that noise
and air pollution  does lead to high
blood pressure, hearing loss, asthma, sleep disturbances and even cardiac
arrest.

So what are we waiting for. Lets not make bursting
crackers an essential part of Diwali from this year.. I feel that instead of
selecting traditional chemical crackers this Diwali, we should go for
eco-friendly ones. Eco-friendly crackers are made of recycled paper and the
sound produced by these is under the decibel limit defined by the Pollution
Board (read it sometime back in a newspaper). These crackers produce paper
fluffers and different coloured lights instead of sound on bursting. Atleast
lets make a beginning to a peaceful Diwali.. If you and I can do it then others
too will follow..

This Diwali we should not burst chemical crackers
but burst and spread the message of happiness, brightness and joy to all our
near and dear ones. Come let us all make a difference this DIWALI..

I TAKE THE LEAD, HOW ABOUT YOU?

The kind of magic words play on me!!

Magical Powers Of Reading

Reading, how important and what does it mean to you? I have always loved to gamble with words right from childhood days, it gives me some kind of satisfaction and takes me to a different world like Alice (from the fairy tale ‘Alice in wonderland’). It is believed  that reading books would enlighten one with knowledge, extract information, pass time relaxed and at leisure.. But this is possible only if you do it from within. What I mean to say is enjoy the READ THAT YOU READ or else its total greek and latin to you. Reading good books will always have a great impact on one’s caliber and personality.

Reading I always felt helps an individual grow into a more sensible and sensitive human being. He understands the world and its perspectives wider and also enables him to solve his own problems maturely. A simple thing like reading your black and white companion (newspaper) every morning with a steaming cup of tea is the best way to begin your day.

When I pick up a book and read it, I just melt into its words and also wonder how authors do it. How do they get the spark into their writing? But I know that authors just don’t erupt overnight they have shaped and moulded their lives in such a way over the years that now they are there to influence thousands and thousands of them through their writings. The narrative style, the tone and dialogues everything needs to be considered before writing. This is possible by just one formula – reading, writing, reading, writing and then there they are, seasoned players in the field of writing.

I have always said that reading is my first love, yes it is till date and will always be. Just that it took a back seat when my son was too young and was always howling for his mamma’s attention (motherhood is something I enjoy and also on my top list). Though I left books for a while, books never disowned me. They were always there easily accessible to me.

So what I have to say in a nutshell is BOOKS are ones best companions with whom we absolutely have no issues of arguments, betrayal, hatred and misunderstanding.

REMEMBER-The biggest disrespect to a book is by having it and yet not reading it.. So what are you waiting for, just begin…. :)

ALMA MATER!!!

Alma Mater

Let me introduce all to my alma mater  Salwan Public School  which was the pioneer of AFTERNOON SHIFT in N.Delhi ,I take this opportunity to share some of my experiences during the initial years of Salwan Public School (Afternoon Shift) or in short as we call SPS(AS)!!

Way back in 1991, I had the privilege of being a part of the bright new beginning of SPS(AS) right from the inception days to be more precise - May 1991. Studying in SPS(AS) for 3 wonderful years was truly a bliss.

It was not a school to say but actually  a home away from home and the memories of which I still lingers in my mind and also cherish ..

The initiative and dedication shown by our incharge madam Mrs Vandana Puri along with the backing of our efficient and hard working teachers is truly commendable. Without them SPS(AS) would not have been where it is today.

Its almost 2 decades now but just seems like yesteryears when me and my pals studied, played, giggled and did different creative activities in SPS(AS)..

To begin with, I can say SPS(AS) knew that mental and physical growth go hand in hand, hence we Salwanians were also exposed to different activities like rock climbing, parasailing n many outdoor adventurous trips to name a few besides the usual bookish knowledge.

Every new day was a challenge .On children’s day Mrs Vandana Puri surprised all her students by organizing on the spot debates with amazing topics. Must say I never failed to participate in it. The fear of losing  the competition never dampered my spirits.

Creativity too did not take a back seat. We had rangoli making competition, duppatta dying, pot decoration, card making, slogan writing and many more. Such activities gave us a great learning experience and also boosted our morale. As students we were always appreciated for our work and so we felt we could even better.

The very first Prefectorial board of SPS(AS)

Oath Taking Ceremony

Winning laurels for our school
SPS(AS) also organized plays and dramas with eye opening themes which also emotionally charged us as students and also our parents who would come to watch the shows.

In the year 1992 we had a live telecast on the National Television of our Assamese dance at the Indira Gandhi Auditorium for the Sadhbhavana Divas (on the occasion of Late Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary)

Further not to forget to mention about the enthusiastic and efficient prefectorial board which was ever ready to do any kind of good and productive job which would bring fame to our school.  I feel proud till date to say that I was the first head girl of SPS(AS) i.e 1991-1992.

Being the head girl I always tried to live up to our school’s expectation and bring honour to our school.

I spend 3 wonderful years in SPS(AS) but those 3 years taught me that SELF- RESPECT and SELF-CONFIDENCE  are the biggest assets in a person’s life and we should never ever lose it, come what may!!!

As students are considered to be like wet clay, all I can say is being a Salwanian I was moulded into a good human being. I am what I am today because of SPS(AS)!!! Today I know the difference between ‘HUMAN BEING’ and ‘BEING HUMAN’!!

PROUD TO BE A SALWANIAN TODAY, TOMORROW AND ALWAYS  !!!!!
