ALMA MATER!!!

Alma Mater

Let me introduce all to my alma mater  Salwan Public School  which was the pioneer of AFTERNOON SHIFT in N.Delhi ,I take this opportunity to share some of my experiences during the initial years of Salwan Public School (Afternoon Shift) or in short as we call SPS(AS)!!

Way back in 1991, I had the privilege of being a part of the bright new beginning of SPS(AS) right from the inception days to be more precise - May 1991. Studying in SPS(AS) for 3 wonderful years was truly a bliss.

It was not a school to say but actually  a home away from home and the memories of which I still lingers in my mind and also cherish ..

The initiative and dedication shown by our incharge madam Mrs Vandana Puri along with the backing of our efficient and hard working teachers is truly commendable. Without them SPS(AS) would not have been where it is today.

Its almost 2 decades now but just seems like yesteryears when me and my pals studied, played, giggled and did different creative activities in SPS(AS)..

To begin with, I can say SPS(AS) knew that mental and physical growth go hand in hand, hence we Salwanians were also exposed to different activities like rock climbing, parasailing n many outdoor adventurous trips to name a few besides the usual bookish knowledge.

Every new day was a challenge .On children’s day Mrs Vandana Puri surprised all her students by organizing on the spot debates with amazing topics. Must say I never failed to participate in it. The fear of losing  the competition never dampered my spirits.

Creativity too did not take a back seat. We had rangoli making competition, duppatta dying, pot decoration, card making, slogan writing and many more. Such activities gave us a great learning experience and also boosted our morale. As students we were always appreciated for our work and so we felt we could even better.

Oath Taking Ceremony

Winning laurels for our school
SPS(AS) also organized plays and dramas with eye opening themes which also emotionally charged us as students and also our parents who would come to watch the shows.

In the year 1992 we had a live telecast on the National Television of our Assamese dance at the Indira Gandhi Auditorium for the Sadhbhavana Divas (on the occasion of Late Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary)

Further not to forget to mention about the enthusiastic and efficient prefectorial board which was ever ready to do any kind of good and productive job which would bring fame to our school.  I feel proud till date to say that I was the first head girl of SPS(AS) i.e 1991-1992.

Being the head girl I always tried to live up to our school’s expectation and bring honour to our school.

I spend 3 wonderful years in SPS(AS) but those 3 years taught me that SELF- RESPECT and SELF-CONFIDENCE  are the biggest assets in a person’s life and we should never ever lose it, come what may!!!

As students are considered to be like wet clay, all I can say is being a Salwanian I was moulded into a good human being. I am what I am today because of SPS(AS)!!! Today I know the difference between ‘HUMAN BEING’ and ‘BEING HUMAN’!!

PROUD TO BE A SALWANIAN TODAY, TOMORROW AND ALWAYS  !!!!!
